This Move Increases Access to Care and Poises the Clinic to Respond to Growth

Willis, Texas, December 13, 2018 – Lone Star Family Health Center (LSFHC) has relocated its Willis Clinic to the Kroger Marketplace on West FM 1097 in order to make accessing care easier for patients and to prepare the clinic to respond to the rapid growth that the Willis community is experiencing.

“Our Willis location has been the fastest growing of our clinics,” says LSFHC CEO Karen Harwell, “with the addition of 1200 square feet in the new space, our patients are going to have a more comfortable experience in a location that is easier to get to.”

In 2017 the LSFHC Willis clinic saw 3,618 individual patients through more than 8,500 visits, and in the past four month period has treated nearly 2,000 patients through just over 3,000 visits. Since opening in 2015, the clinic located at 201 Lincoln Ridge has served the growing Willis population with great care and concern. However the waiting area was overcrowded and staff was required to clean and prep rooms quickly to keep patient waits short. The new location offers a larger, more comfortable waiting area and more exam rooms, meaning that patients will be more comfortable and able to get into a room more quickly. When a family member is ill, every minute matters.

This location is also near other stops that patients may need to make such as a bank, gas station and grocery store, meaning patients can maximize a trip. Added to that is increased pharmacy access, as LSFHC has entered into a partnership with the Kroger Pharmacy to provide deep prescription discounts for patients. Because transportation is one of the top barriers to care, this is a great benefit for LSFHC patients.

“We are excited to offer our patients healthcare in a more convenient location,” says Harwell, “But we are also conscious of the fact that this location allows us to expand services more quickly than our last building.”

The current population growth in Willis combined with more growth expected from coming housing developments means a demand for more service-related positions, which most often do not come with employer sponsored insurance. This means that LSFHC, a nonprofit health center that offers discounts and cash rates for uninsured patients, is likely to see an increased patient need. By moving to a facility that already has the needed space to house additional staff the clinic will be prepared to expand quickly.

LSFHC opened its doors at 9516 West FM 1097, Suite 140 for both appointments and walk in patients on Monday, December 10th after being closed for appointments for only one day.
