Iwould like to thank you for your interest in the Conroe Medical Education Foundation Family Medicine Residency Program. I am thrilled that I have been given the opportunity to lead such a high quality organization. We have built a solid program and expect to continue providing high level residency education and patient care long into the future. We have strong faculty and residents and provide quality care, both in the office and in the hospital. We educate residents who have the opportunity to practice anywhere they choose, in any style of practice. We feel that the wide variety of experiences that is afforded at our program allows for this. I truly believe that Conroe offers an excellent learning environment and is an outstanding place to live.
I came to Conroe in 2003 as a faculty member. I would like to share my reasons for coming to Conroe in hopes that it will help you as you consider selecting a residency program. I chose Conroe because it is a place where a family physician can really take care of patients at a very high level. We, as faculty, teach the residents in every area of the hospital. The residents truly get to see how much family physicians can add to the care of patients I also chose Conroe because of the residents. We are proud that our program consistently has outstanding residents who perform extremely well. Residents are actively involved in the committees that make our program and our family medicine center function. They are a pleasure to work with. We are truly a family.
Our 21 residents rotate through inpatient and outpatient settings in the Conroe area. Our 23,000 square foot, state of the art family medicine center was built in 2003. Visitors to our facility are impressed by our physical surroundings. Our faculty and residents agree that our clinic provides a very comfortable environment in which to work and learn. We have 24 exam rooms, three nurse’s stations, and3 procedure rooms with up to date equipment, including x-ray and lab services. Our clinic has used electronic health records for over 5 years and has wireless connectivity. Patient care and efficiency are enhanced because our medical records are available from anywhere that you have web access. We strive to offer our residents a training environment that will provide them with the same experience they will have in their own practices after graduation.
Our graduates practice in a variety of settings, urban, rural, suburban, and urgent care. Although, many of the family physicians who practice in Conroe and the surrounding communities are graduates of our program. We were started in 1983 by the physicians in the community who recognized the need for family physicians in a rapidly growing and medically underserved county. Some of those physicians are still involved as board members and community faculty. We have strong support from the local medical community. Local physicians recruit our residents into their large groups and small practices. We were even selected as the inpatient hospitalist group for a Medicare HMO based on the quality and efficiency of our care.
Thank you for your interest in the Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program. We are proud of what we have to offer to our residents, our faculty and our community. We welcome your questions.
Sincerely,
Stephen L. McKernan, BS Pharmacy, ND, DO FAAFP
